Intimate Apparel Sample Design
Intimate Apparel

This design for Lynn Nottage's play Intimate Apparel was a costume class project at Barnard College. Period clothing is a central focus of the play, and Lonnie loved interpreting the playwright's descriptions of fabrics, textures, and silhouettes to create a vibrant and detailed world. The contrast in style and material between the characters highlights their different social positions, as well as each character's relationship with clothing.

This is the design board for a new work produced at Columbia University: a murder mystery set in the 1940s. As head of a three-person costume team, Lonnie designed, pulled and altered pieces from stock to bring these vibrant characters to life.

Lonnie designed and built this student-produced show as head of a two-person costume team. They constructed 1880s day bodices and skirts from historical patterns on a 2-week timeline, as well as pulling items from stock.
